Bombay Velvet Movie:
Bombay Velvet is an upcoming 2014 Hindi drama, film noir, neo noir directed and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap. It is based on historian Gyan Prakash's book Mumbai Fables, a story of how the city of Mumbai became a metropolis against the backdrop of love, greed, violence and jazz music. The film will feature Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles while Karan Johar will play the role of the primary antagonist. Raveena Tandon, Kay Kay Menon and Siddharth Basu will also appear in supporting roles in the film.
The director initially got inspiration to do a film such as Bombay Velvet after reading the L.A. Quartet, which is a sequence of four crime fiction novels by James Ellroy, set in the late 1940s through the late 1950s in Los Angeles. The novels inspired him to dig into the dark trenches of the history of Bombay, where he found a treasure trove that was never-ending.
