Box Office: "X-Men: Days Of Future Past Takes Over

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" landed on top of the box office 

Taking theaters by storm, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" landed on top of the box office for the weekend of May 23-25, 2014. 

The action-adventure new release scored an opening Friday totaling $35.8 million, and is set to end its first weekend with a total grab of $90.7 million plus. 

After spending the last week on top,"Godzilla" was relegated to second place. The sci-fi flick had an $8.8 million Friday, and will finish out the three days with $31.4 million. 

Rounding out the top five in earmarked earnings are the new rom-com "Blended" ($14.2 million) in third, the frat comedy "Neighbors" ($13.7 million) in fourth and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" ($7.7 million) in fifth.

Anne Hathaway Screens "Rio 2" For Lollipop Network

Always proud to show off her work, Anne Hathaway was in attendance for a special screening of "Rio 2" on Saturday (April 26) in Burbank, CA.

Beautiful in black, the voice of Jewel the parrot strolled the red carpet with a smile at the event, which was held as part of the Lollipop Network's Night Under the Stars.

In career news, Anne will soon be both heard and seen on the big screen in the comedy "Don Peyote."

Slated to hit theaters later this year, the film is described as follows: "Don Peyote" tells the story Warren Allman, an unemployed stoner who finally finds a purpose in life after an unpleasant encounter with a homeless man preaching the end is near.

Barefoot Movie

There’s something magical about Evan Rachel Wood, or so the movies would have you believe. Charlie Countryman and A Case of You didn’t have much else in common, but both were about her impressive ability to spur even the most aimless young (well, young-ish) man to action in an attempt to win her over. 

She works her mysterious magic yet again in the indie romcom Barefoot, as an extremely sheltered and naive young woman who crosses paths with the ne’er-do-well scion (Scott Speedman) of a wealthy Southern family. Watch the trailer after the jump. 

Barefoot is the latest film by Andrew Fleming, who previously directed The Craft, Dick, Nancy Drew, and Hamlet 2. That ought to inspire a bit of hope, which the lackluster trailer can then deflate. 

Newcomer Stephen Zotnowski wrote the script, and J.K. Simmons, Treat Williams, and Kate Burton also star. Read more...

THE SON OF GOD (Movie)

Produced by couple Roma Downey and Mark Burnett and starring Diogo Morgado as Jesus, the film includes both footage from the hit television series and never-before-released scenes and is set to hit theaters on Feb. 28. 

Currently, it is screening with religious and business leaders, in an effort to raise more money to fund the film's distribution. 

The film is directed by Christopher Spencer, who also directed the miniseries. Colin Swash, Nic Young and Richard Bedser, who wrote the script for the television series are back at work again here. 

"Son of God" will be distributed via 20th Century Fox and is the first major motion picture from a large studio since Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ." It will hit theaters a month before "Noah," another highly anticipated Bible-based epic starring Russell Crowe and Emma Watson, which opens in theaters on March 28. 

The History Channel miniseries averaged 11.7 million viewers, pulling in roughly 13.1 million viewers when it premiered in March 2013. It is currently playing in Hong Kong and will soon debut in the United Kingdom. 

Film producer Mark Burnett says his soon-to-be released movie "Son of God" will have a wide impact for Christian evangelism as modern technology brings the film about the life of Jesus to remote areas of the world. 

Diogo Morgado portrays the role of Jesus as the film spans from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection. Read more...

Black Out Movie

Great news! Our song ‘Waster’ will appear in a new Dutch movie called ‘Black Out’ directed by Arne Toonen. You can hear us at the end of the credits; so make sure to go and watch it all the way to the end!

On top of that, we were lucky enough to have been invited to the movie’s première in the Amsterdam Tuschinsky Theatre tonight! This black tie affair will be photographed by yours truly so keep an eye open if you wish to see us in a tuxedo…

HOLY GHOST PEOPLE

Holy Ghost People will be making its way to theaters and VOD later this month, and we have release details, photos, and the official trailer.

“HOLY GHOST PEOPLE is a Southern Gothic thriller about a teenager searching for her lost sister in the Appalachian Mountains, where she encounters a snake-handling religious cult and eventually learns the truth about her sister’s fate.”

Holy Ghost People was directed by Mitchell Altieri, written by Mitchell Altieri, Phil Flores, Kevin Artigue, and Joe Egender. The movie stars Emma Greenwell, Brendan McCarthy, Joe Egender, and Cameron Richardson. XLrator Media is distributing the movie and it will first be released to VOD on February 18th. A limited theatrical release will start on February 21st and we expect a Blu-ray/DVD release down the line, although it has not yet been officially announced. Read more...

The Returned (2014)

The Returned is set in a post-zombie world where a treatment called the “Return Protein” can stop the spread of the virus if injected quickly after infection, but cannot cure it. With daily injections, the “Returned” are able to live relatively normal lives, but with brutal attacks at the hands of Anti-Return groups and rumors that protein stock is running low, the world is again on the brink of chaos. 

In the midst of this turmoil are Alex (Kris Holden-Reid) and Kate (Emily Hampshire), a young, successful and enviable couple that are hiding a long held secret – Alex is Returned. Suspicious that a government order for all the Returned to report to a secure medical facility ‘for their own safety’, the couple flees, taking with them all the doses of “Return Protein” they have.

Child’s Pose (Movie)

Calin Peter Netzer's Child's Pose is a gripping new drama from Romania and another demonstration of how that country's new wave is developing a distinctive kind of real-time slice-of-life cinema with characterisation in extreme, pitiless closeup. It's able to open up brilliantly crafted incidental insights into post-Ceaușescu society, and like Corneliu Porumboiu's Police, Adjective and Cristi Puiu's The Death of Mr Lazarescu, this film has some exquisitely horrible glimpses into bureaucracy and corruption. The story's premise is a noir standard: a wealthy and overbearing mother, Cornelia (Luminița Gheorghiu) has a stormy relationship with her spoilt grownup son Barbu (Bogdan Dumitrache). 

When he gets into some serious trouble, his mum has to step in and square things with a word here and a payoff there. Vlad Ivanov – renowned for his chilling performance as the abortionist in Cristian Mungiu's 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days – is excellent as a well-heeled businessman who considers that his palm has been insufficiently greased. But as things develop, the story goes beyond the thriller genre, into deeper waters: the suspense narrative leads to a spiritual crisis. Cornelia has to come to terms with a terrible kind of loss, of failure, and a need to confront her own culpability. Challenging, intelligent work. Read more....

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE (Movie)

It's like the '80s never went away. Anything Arnold Schwarnegger can do*, Jean-Claude can do, well, too. Seeing Arnie's latest get a promo, JCVD has launched his riposte, Welcome To The Jungle, into the world. Here's the film's new trailer to check out. 

The premise, one that William Golding will be kicking himself for not coming up with, sees teambuilding coach Van Damme lead a group of white-collar types when their wilderness seminar gets a whole lot more wildernessy that they'd planned for. The good news? JCVD is also a shit-kicking ex-soldier. The bad? He was a Marine, not a Foreign Legionnaire. We'd have preferred him to be a Foreign Legionnaire. Oh well. 

Among the imperilled deskbound types are Adam Brody, Rob Huebel, Kristen Schaal and Megan Boone, with Dennis Haysbert also popping up. In the midst of this Lord Of The Flies-like scenario it soon falls to office schleb Chris (Brody) to stand up and be counted, presumably while Van Damme is off kicking the hell out of some trees. 

There's no UK release for Welcome To The Jungle as yet, but US readers can catch it in cinemas and on VOD from February 7. Read more....
